Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for cable modification and cut over
- Obtain project plan from appropriate personnel and use plan to scope work for job
- Arrange for access to worksite, according to local government or other authority requirements
- Inspect site to develop a work health and safety (WHS) plan and notify appropriate personnel of identified safety hazards
- Determine cable route and type of cable from project plan, taking into account the location of other services
- Obtain required plant, tools, safety equipment and materials
- Prepare detailed plan of cut over tasks according to project plan, job scope, legislative and other requirements, and obtain necessary approvals
- Notify customer and network carrier of proposed cut over activity and proposed disruption to services that may impact on their service level agreements (SLAs)
- Undertake additional preparatory non-jointing work, as required, according to customer practices and site conditions
- Joint and cut over cable
- Prepare cabinet, joint enclosure and jointing chambers for cable handling, entry and sealing requirements
- Joint cable according to manufacturer guidelines
- Test cable for performance and rectify cut over faults relating to cut over according to location, materials available and customer practices
- Record test results for future reference
- Seal all joints according to cable type, location, customer practices and manufacturer guidelines
- Clean-up worksite and complete documentation
- Complete reports on cut over installation and design amendments to reflect existing cable layout and according to enterprise requirements
- Place and secure correctly labelled cables to supports in jointing chamber or cabinet according to customer practices
- Mark-up as-built plans for return to customer for their records
- Recover obsolete materials and return to appropriate point for disposal
- Notify appropriate personnel about completion of cut over and obtain sign-off
